Intersections

Hello friends! I hope you are enjoying your summer. I have missed being here but my time away was intentional and profitable both personally and spiritually. These past 10 months I have blogged my way through a very introspective personal and spiritual journey and I appreciate you sticking around. Sometimes I wish I had just kept this all to myself so I could appear more together than I really am, but I want to be authentic and if I wait until after I have it all figured out, there will never … [Read more...]

Distracted By Fear

During the IF:Gathering, the Lord showed me three specific ways that I have been allowing myself to be distracted from fully being the Woman of God and leader He has called me to be. Last week I shared how I am easily distracted by others when I allow too many voices to influence me or when I spend too much time looking at what others are doing causing me to lose sight or confidence in what God has called me to do. Today I will be sharing my third distraction. Distraction #3: Fear of Not Being … [Read more...]

Distracted By Others

During the IF:Gathering, the Lord showed me three specific ways that I have been allowing myself to be distracted from fully being the Woman of God and the leader that He has called me to be. Today I will be sharing two of those distractions. Distraction #1: Too many voices. "You don't even realize what a secular world you're living in as a young mom. And part of that reason is the internet. The problem is that online, every voice carries equal weight." ~ Sally Clarkson, Mom Heart Conference, … [Read more...]

The Call

Okay, I realize I have been building up the anticipation a bit and you are probably waiting for me to reveal some type of big "Aha!" moment where the heavens opened up and God audibly spoke to me and told me that (you can fill in the blank) is what I am supposed to be doing and that it is something big and fancy and important and has an easy to define title. He didn't. I hope I have not let you down and that you will keep reading because He did speak to me. He spoke to my heart and gave me … [Read more...]

Stuck

Before I can really begin to share what God spoke to me last weekend during the IF:Gathering, I need to back up a little bit to share where my head and my heart have been for the last year or so. Last spring, Phillip and I began working through Donald Miller's course called Creating Your Life Plan. We were watching the videos and working through the modules until we arrived at Module 4 and I got stuck. It seemed like such a simple assignment, to list the roles that I play in life and to keep … [Read more...]

IF God Is Speaking, Then I Will Listen

Three weeks ago, I sat in Starbucks and listened to Ella Fitzgerald belt out some of my favorite ballads as I eagerly filled out the pages of my Powersheets. I walked out of there feeling so energized and focused and excited about all of the things I was going to make happen in 2015. Ten days later I arrived home from an unplanned trip to Ohio that began as a visit to be with my sick grandfather and ended with me standing by his casket, holding a white rose and saying goodbye to him and to MY … [Read more...]

On Grief and Motherhood

Two weeks ago, Phillip and I spent Friday afternoon at Starbucks followed by a dinner date. I worked on my plans for the local IF:Gathering I’m hosting and had some great conversations with Phillip about our family, our callings, and our future. I spent that Sunday afternoon working on my Powersheets and left the coffee shop feeling so energized and focused and excited about 2015. It was a great weekend! Later that night, I received a call from my sister that our grandpa was ill and had been … [Read more...]

December Goals

Wow, November went by fast! It was such a busy month for us with Kate's birthday, my sister-in-law's wedding, the unexpected stomach bug, and Thanksgiving. I am glad that this week is a semi-normal week for us with a little bit of margin because next week is a doozy. In balancing homeschooling and ministry and family life and personal goals and creative projects, it helps me to keep a simple list of intentions and goals for the upcoming month so that I can prioritize, use my time wisely, and … [Read more...]

Gratitude Amidst Sickness

We've had a busy couple of weeks with Kate's birthday and my sister-in-law's wedding, and I was looking forward to spending these few days before Thanksgiving working on a gratitude project and Thanksgiving crafts with the boys and maybe even decorating for Christmas, but unfortunately a stomach bug has entered our family and has been slowly attacking us one by one. So instead of these few days being filled with scissors and glue and music and hot chocolate, they have looked more like yucky … [Read more...]

November Goals

I can't believe that November is here already. This is an exciting month for the Medlin family! Kate's first birthday is on the 15th and my sister-in-law is getting married on the 22nd. And then there is Thanksgiving and decorating for Christmas. With so much going on, I jotted down a few goals and intentions for the month to help me stay focused and not get too overwhelmed. Weeks 1 & 2: Prepare for Kate's birthday party Paint kitchen island (a DIY that I promise to blog … [Read more...]
