Permission to Dream

A change is in the air. On my front door hangs the big letter M that my boys painted and glittered last year, the yellow flowers in my entryway have been replaced by a bouquet of sticks collected from our yard, and a pumpkin spice candle flickers in my bathroom. Fall has arrived. I am busy packing away the sandals and shorts and swimsuits, hanging up sweaters and hoodies and still searching for that perfect fall shoe to replace my beloved Gizeh sandals I have worn all summer. A gentle … [Read more...]

Thoughts on Having a Daughter

A few weeks ago, Phillip and I sat in a little booth at Chili’s for some late night appetizers and made some baby predictions. Ironically, each of us picked November 7th as our predicted birth date. Well, today is the 7th and if labor doesn't begin in the next few hours, he and I plan to go out on another little dinner date and make new predictions and relish this last bit of alone time we may get. Phillip has been so sweet over the last few weeks to take the boys along with him a little more … [Read more...]

In which I tell you about God healing Aidan

As I begin to pack for our Fall Student Retreat, I am checking the weather to see if I need to pack long sleeves, washing the last load of laundry to make sure that the boys have enough clean jeans, and wondering whether or not we should take their scooters. What I am not doing is running to the grocery store to purchase special snacks for Aidan. I am not spending the day in the kitchen preparing special meals to take in a cooler. Why? Because this summer, God healed Aidan. You hold … [Read more...]

Moving On

I'm sorry that I have been so quiet here and on social media lately. It's been one thing after another around here and whenever life starts feeling overwhelming, I tend to retreat from the hustle and bustle of the online world. If you had told me back in November that this transition of commuting and trying to sell our house would take over six months, I would have told you that I would not be able to survive that long. But here we are, six months later, and although it has difficult, the … [Read more...]

Under Contract

Our house is finally under contract! Despite my being a fair weather fan, God has been faithful. We are supposed to close on the sale of this house on April 29th and we are beginning the process to purchase the house with stairs. A year ago I would have told you that it would take a miracle for me to ever leave this house, but God performed a miracle in my heart and now I am so excited about moving and making our new house a home. Please pray with me that the closing process of both … [Read more...]

On Being a Fair Weather Fan

This past Sunday, our church members were told to wear their favorite team colors or jerseys to church. My husband and I are not into sports at all, so we had no jerseys and honestly wouldn’t even know what color combinations to put together to represent a team. Phillip, being the funny guy that he is, asked me to make him a shirt that said Team Jesus, so I went to the craft store and bought some iron-on letters, and there you have it, a custom team jersey. When he opened up the service with … [Read more...]

On Finding God in My Kitchen

I sat down at my computer multiple times last week to write, but ended up staring at the blinking cursor on the screen. Tapping out a few words, backspace, backspace. Close. Don't save. Shut screen. No words coming to mind. So this is writer’s block, I think to myself. No words come to mind because all that I can think of is food. The Bible says to not worry about what you will eat or drink. But what if your child has digestive issues? What if certain foods cause your little one … [Read more...]

Dear mom, what you do matters to God.

If you haven't seen this beautiful video that my dear friend Sally Clarkson made to encourage moms, please take a moment to watch. Oh, you might want to grab a tissue first! Have a beautiful weekend! Always, Amanda … [Read more...]

margin.

Planning and organization is something that comes naturally to me. I used to be in the event planning industry and the first thing I like to do when planning an event is to close my eyes and imagine the event taking place. I take in the big picture – the sights, the sounds, the smell, the atmosphere, the feel of the space. Then I open my eyes and work my way backwards, jotting down the details and to-do’s necessary to turning that mental picture into a reality. My method has always served me … [Read more...]

My Practices of Intention {A Manifesto}

Well, I am happy to say that I finished my 31 days series before the calendar rolled over to 2013. So what if it took me three months. (sigh) I am glad that I finished what I started. Really, it was more to me than following through on something I set out to do. Writing the series really helped me define the areas of my life that I want to live with intention as well as opened my eyes to how much I really need to walk in His grace. So as a little tribute 2012, I thought I'd write a … [Read more...]
