Homemade Dryer Balls

If you want soft clothes without using the chemicals found in fabric softener and dryer sheets, I recommend that you switch to using dryer balls. Not only do they soften your clothes without harsh chemicals, they can be used over and over again. So your saving money and saving the planet. Sounds good to me!It's easy to make your own. Here's all you need...1 skein of 100% wool yarn (Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool works great and is available at Jo-Ann's, Hobby Lobby)1 large blunt … [Read more...]

Mindful Parenting

I just finished reading "Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting" by Jon and Myla Kabat-zinn. I have to say it is the best parenting book that I have ever read! It took me forever to finish because I took so many notes. (I checked it out from the library or else I would have just highlighted pretty much every other sentence.)So if you are new to the phrase "mindfulness", like I was before reading the book, let me explain. Mindfulness is all about living in the present moment. Not … [Read more...]

My Personal Mission Statement

During my little "retreat" this week, I did a lot of thinking about what I am all "purpose" for lack of a better word. I came up with a personal mission statement so that I can always keep myself in check to make sure that the life I am living day-to-day is reflective of the person that I hope to be. My Personal Mission Statement: To be a good steward of all that God has entrusted me with as I strive to live a life reflective of Christ that points others to Him and His … [Read more...]

Have you ever felt like everything in your life was pointing you toward something? Coincidence, I don't believe so. More like Divine direction.    1) Ever since my father passed away two months ago, I am much more aware of the sacredness of life and our time here on this earth, however long or short it may be.  2) I have been reading "Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting" (which is an awesome book that I will be posting about soon!) which is all about awareness and … [Read more...]

Turning Off the Television

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that my family has recently stopped watching television. Many people are surprised to hear this, especially since I have young children. It's been a gradual process getting us to this point and I'd like to share with you a few of the reasons that influenced our decision. My husband and I both watched a lot of television as kids. We were both raised in homes where the TV was on most nights of the week and when we got married, we carried on that tradition. We … [Read more...]

101 Things in 1001 Days

Today I am 30. It sounds so old, yet I feel so young. I am very happy and content with where I am in my life. I have a wonderful husband, two beautiful boys, a house to grow old in, and great family and friends. I am very blessed!I have heard it said that your 20's are for finding yourself and your 30's are for living out that "self" that you found. My 20's were definitely a time for finding myself. I feel like I have finally come into my own, even just in the past 2-3 years. Something about … [Read more...]

Cloth Wipes and Homemade Wipe Solution

When I started cloth diapering, it didn't make sense to continue using disposable wipes. I made some cloth wipes by serging a piece of flannel and terry cloth together in a 4.5" x 7.5" rectangle to fit in my wipes warmer. The terry cloth side works great to "scrub" the baby's bottom clean, and the flannel side provides a nice finishing wipe.As I mentioned earlier, I store my wipes in a Prince Lionheart Wipes Warmer. These can be purchased at your local Wal-Mart or Target. It keeps the wipes warm … [Read more...]

Upcycled iPad Sleeve

I recently pledged to buy or make handmade gifts for everyone if at all possible. It's been fun and fairly easy so far because I've been making gifts for girls. When my husbands birthday rolled around last weekend, I was stumped at what to do. After thinking about it for a little while, I gave up and decided to get him this cool book and some red Converse. A few days before his birthday, he asked me if I would make him a padded sleeve for his new iPad. Yea! He wanted a heavy, rougher material … [Read more...]

Birthdays and Bowling

Buddy serenaded Daddy with a little "Happy Birthday" music...   We played silly water games with our teens from church...   Buddy watched from his pool...   My hubby helped me out by taking down the laundry. He even humored my by wearing my clothespin apron. He's so funny!   Little Man tried broccoli for the first time and LOVED it!   The cousins painted some "Under the Sea" watercolors...   And we went bowling with some friends.   I hope you have a lovely … [Read more...]
