34 Weeks {A Daybook}

I've always enjoyed reading the daybook posts of other bloggers, so I thought I would try one of my own. Of course, I am writing this at night, so I may already be doing it wrong. Oh well! Outside my window... It is cool and dark and the crickets are especially loud this evening. I am thinking about... All of the little things on my to do list that I obsessively check numerous times throughout the day. I am thankful... For my sweet boys. They are so precious and such a joy to … [Read more...]

Count Your Blessings

One of my all time favorite Christmas songs is a song that Bing Crosby sings in White Christmas called Count Your Blessings.  (My favorite version is sung by Diana Krall and you can listen to it here.) When I'm worried and I can't sleep I count my blessings instead of sheep And I fall asleep counting my blessings When my bank roll is getting small I think of when I had none at all And I fall asleep counting my blessings Whenever this song comes up on my playlist, I pause and smile as … [Read more...]

Trusting God with the Details

So we went and looked at the house today. You know, the one with stairs. And guess what? It actually has two staircases. The main staircase near the front door, and a hidden set of stairs that go from the upstairs bonus room to the downstairs laundry room. For a 4 year old boy who desperately wants stairs, I can’t think of anything cooler than a hidden, secret staircase. The house is exactly what we are looking for with some added bonuses. It actually has 4 bedrooms, plus a large bonus … [Read more...]

The Little Things

For the last few days, I have been writing about the art of self-care as it relates to our journey to cultivating a life of intention and grace. I have talked about rest, nutrition, prayer, time alone, and creativity. Today I want to wrap up the self-care portion of the series talking about the little things that we can do throughout the day to lift our moods and our spirits. It is easy for women to get caught in the rut of the everyday. Whether you work a job or stay at home, whether you … [Read more...]

With Faith Like a Child

We sit on the blanket in the warm September sunshine sharing what we are thankful for and what we would like to pray about. This circle time that we do has quickly become our favorite part of learning at home. Stacked next to me are Bible storybooks and Scripture songs to help me teach them about God and His ways. They listen with eyes of wonder, pray sweet prayers thanking God for trees and butterflies, and ask Him to help the flowers grow again. Emma tells me that God doesn’t talk to … [Read more...]

Open Up My Eyes

Lately I have been listening to Hillsong United during my runs because most of their songs are high energy and upbeat. But there is this one song on my playlist that is quite the opposite. Every time it plays, tears sting my eyes and my lungs begin to burn, as the sidewalk becomes a place where my heart cries out to God. The song is called "Hosanna" and you can view the full lyrics here and listen to it here. This is the part that gets me... Heal my heart and make it clean Open up my eyes … [Read more...]

Reflecting on Easter

  Year after year I have celebrated Easter. I have put on my best dresses, dyed colorful eggs, cried at the Passion plays while thanking Christ for His great sacrifice.   But this year was different. You see, this once innocent girl with the childlike faith had now tasted of the bitterness of death.    Death. Once something that seemed almost surreal has now taken up permanent residence in my reality.    Death. Something so powerful that it took my dad away … [Read more...]
