Crafting for Baby

You all know that I love to knit, sew, and wield a hot glue gun. Well, when I found out that I was having a little girl, my hands got busy making all of the little pretties my time and budget would allow for. This past weekend, I finished up the last few small projects, so now I am ready to show you her mama-made stash! First up, are some sweet little dresses that I knit using this pattern. The purplish green dress on the left was knit from Madelinetosh DK in Cosmos, and the red dress on the … [Read more...]

A Month of Knitting and Reading

I started knitting a Citron shawl and reading Anna Karenina in early February when Phillip and I attended a couples retreat with our church. I had no idea they would both take me 6 weeks to complete, so I feel like I am just coming up for air! First up, the Citron shawl which I knit using Madelinetosh Lace in Scarlet using a size 6 circular needle. The pattern only called for 5 sections, but I wanted it to be a little bit bigger so I did the math and added a 6th section. Now that … [Read more...]

On Knitting and Reading

Two of my favorite pastimes are reading and knitting. Reading is my breathing in. I feast on theology and spiritual memoirs as I wrestle out my faith. I am swept to another time and place as I sit down with a great work of classic literature or historical fiction. My creativity is awakened and unpacked as I read beautiful words of poetry and prose. Reading is food for my mind and soul. Knitting is my breathing out. My fingers busy creating beauty as my mind wanders from this to … [Read more...]

I’m Back

Wow! When I mentioned I might be taking a small break back in September, I had no idea that it would turn into two months. We had such a crazy summer that went straight into a very busy September with my sister-in-law's wedding and my ladies retreat back to back. I didn't realize how much I needed to get my life and routines back in order until I actually did. As a mama of two little ones,I only get small snippets of time each day to work on things that require mental energy. So where before … [Read more...]

Right Now…

...sitting in my bedroom enjoying the cool air from our newly repaired air conditioner after 3 weeks in an 86+ degree home.    ...sipping Peach Iced Tea that I discovered while out shopping yesterday. Yum!   ...loving my sweet husband of 8 years. We celebrated our anniversary with a much needed 2-day getaway last week.    ...playing my husband in Words With Friends and LOSING every game. Not cool. But I will beat him one of these days.   ...nursing my 15 month old, who I thought was … [Read more...]

Knit Pincushion

Funny story about this pincushion...it actually started out as an Easter egg. I'm not really sure why I was knitting an Easter egg, but I was. Things were going really good until the end. I wasn't paying close enough attention and suddenly, my Easter egg had a tail. And I didn't really care enough to backtrack and try to fix it. So I stuffed it with some wool roving and tried to shape it. It looked nothing like an egg. I was playing around with the shape and mashed it flat. It looked … [Read more...]

Birthday Crafting for My Sis

This past Saturday was my sister's birthday and I wanted to give her all handmade gifts. I started with this "market" bag that I saw on The Purl Bee. It was a fairly easy knit. It just took me a while because I haven't been in the knitting groove lately. I used to always knit while I nursed Little Man, but now he grabs everything and has pulled my knitting off the needles once or twice, so I can't do that anymore! It turned out pretty well except for my kitchener stitch. It was a little too … [Read more...]

Handmade Bluebird & Nest

I thought I would introduce our new little friend to you...a bluebird I made that Buddy so lovingly named "Tweet Tweet". I knitted the bluebird following this great pattern created by Linda featured on Rhythm of the Home. I just so happened to have all the wool yarn I needed left over from other projects. And every little bluebird needs a home, so I also made a nest using this pattern on The Purl Bee. Both projects were quick and easy knits and I love how they turned out. I found a great … [Read more...]

Baby Sun Hat

For the sake of simplicity, I have decided to move my crafting posts to "Naturally Chic Mama" and save my other blog "Little Knit Knots" for when I open my Etsy store. So if you ever actually have read anything from "Little Knit Knots", you might see some repeats posts here as I move everything over. Anyway...I needed a break from knitting shorties, so I thought I'd try to make Little Man a sun hat. I found this great (free!) pattern on Ravelry, and purchased Sugar'n Cream 100% cotton yarn in … [Read more...]
