Homemade Playdough Valentines

As you know, my One Word for 2012 is Be, as in Be a Friend. One of the ways I have tried to put this into practice is by starting a moms playgroup at our church. We meet once a month at my house, once at another mom's house, and also try to schedule in one monthly outing. It has been a great way for me to connect with other moms, and the boys are also getting an opportunity to play and connect with other kids their age. Today, we had a fun little Valentine's Day Party at our house. I served … [Read more...]

DIY Headboard & Bedskirt

Have I ever told you what a great husband I have? Not only does he help with the kids and the house, love to shop at thrift stores, and watch Grey's Anatomy with me...he is also a very thoughtful gift giver. Prior to Christmas, I told him that I really wanted to redecorate our Master Bedroom after the holidays. I say redecorate, but it has never really been decorated in the first place. Our Master Bedroom has always been the neglected space. Since we have been married, we have never purchased … [Read more...]

A Very Craigslist Christmas

If you know me at all, you know that my husband and I are slightly obsessed with Craigslist. You know you have it bad when your 3 year old can't find one of his toys, and asks if you sold it on Craigslist. (And yes, sometimes I have.)Over the years, we have found amazing deals and saved lots of money by shopping Craigslist instead of retail. Here are a few examples...Last Christmas, my husband gave me a black Kitchen Aid mixer that he found on Craigslist for $75. I have always wanted a Kitchen … [Read more...]

Frugal and Creative Gift Giving

I have never been one of those girls that enjoy shopping at the mall.  But take me to a thrift store and I am in heaven! I don't know what I love more, saving money or the thrill of the find. Here are some Christmas gifts ideas that you may find at your local thrift store...Picture Frames I purchased most of the picture frames for my photo wall from the thrift store for under a dollar. DIY Teepee

Okay, so this is the last post about Buddy's birthday. Then I can move on to other fun things. But birthdays are so the most fun!   I have been wanting to make Buddy some type of playhouse or tent for a while. My original idea was to make a felt playhouse, but then I got sick and lost an entire week so I didn't have as much time as originally planned. I have had my eye on this teepee tutorial for a while, and decided to go with that instead. I'm glad I did because the boys really love … [Read more...]

Happy {belated} Valentine’s Day!

Yesterday was such a fun day!    I started the day serving a special breakfast of homemade blueberry streusel muffins. They were so delicious!     We lit our heart lantern and listened to Ella Fitzgerald while we ate.     After we ate, we gave the boys their Valentine's. Their sweet Daddy gave them the cutest little boxes of animal crackers.     Then I gave them their cowboy pajama/lounge pants that I made for them.     I made Buddy's pants by tracing a pair of his store … [Read more...]

Handmade Christmas Gifts

I made some Christmas gifts for a few friends and family members, but I couldn't post about them until after Christmas because most of them read this blog. I found the tutorial for this gathered clutch on the Sew, Mama, Sew! Handmade Holiday Master List 2010. I loved making these! After I made my first one, I started adding a few things of my own, like the wrist strap and scrappy flower. It was my first time sewing in a zipper. It was much easier than I thought. I don't know what I was … [Read more...]

Upcycled iPad Sleeve

I recently pledged to buy or make handmade gifts for everyone if at all possible. It's been fun and fairly easy so far because I've been making gifts for girls. When my husbands birthday rolled around last weekend, I was stumped at what to do. After thinking about it for a little while, I gave up and decided to get him this cool book and some red Converse. A few days before his birthday, he asked me if I would make him a padded sleeve for his new iPad. Yea! He wanted a heavy, rougher material … [Read more...]
