In which I tell you about God healing Aidan

As I begin to pack for our Fall Student Retreat, I am checking the weather to see if I need to pack long sleeves, washing the last load of laundry to make sure that the boys have enough clean jeans, and wondering whether or not we should take their scooters. What I am not doing is running to the grocery store to purchase special snacks for Aidan. I am not spending the day in the kitchen preparing special meals to take in a cooler. Why? Because this summer, God healed Aidan. You hold … [Read more...]

We Survived Another Summer Camp!

My husband is a youth minister and every summer, we work two weeks of church camp. This year, my husband was the camp director for the state, so we attended all four weeks of camp and I am happy to say that we not only survived...we had a GREAT time! The first week, we hosted the Boys and Girls Club Marching Band from Montego Bay, Jamaica. They were so much fun to hang out with and we were sad to say goodbye. Several of our friends who work camp have kids the same age as the boys, so … [Read more...]

{Not So} Happy Easter

If my boys look a bit pitiful in this picture, it's because they were in the early stages of coming down with a nasty stomach virus that still has the both of them and myself in the bed as I type these words. I haven't been feeling well since Thursday, Jack started feeling it Friday night, and Aidan got it on Sunday morning (on top of his double ear infection), and it has been rough! Thankfully Phillip has not shown any signs of illness, so he has been lovingly and patiently taking care of the … [Read more...]

On Being a Fair Weather Fan

This past Sunday, our church members were told to wear their favorite team colors or jerseys to church. My husband and I are not into sports at all, so we had no jerseys and honestly wouldn’t even know what color combinations to put together to represent a team. Phillip, being the funny guy that he is, asked me to make him a shirt that said Team Jesus, so I went to the craft store and bought some iron-on letters, and there you have it, a custom team jersey. When he opened up the service with … [Read more...]

Goodbye, Hello {January 2013 edition}

January has been a fun and busy month! :: in the ministry :: We are settling in well at our new church and making lots of friends. Phillip and I have been working on redesigning our student center, and we turned the old game room into a cool coffee shop where I have had a lot of fun painting and thrifting and decorating. The boys love hanging out at the student center all day because the main room is a big as a gymnasium and it has concrete floors - the perfect place to ride trikes and … [Read more...]

On Finding God in My Kitchen

I sat down at my computer multiple times last week to write, but ended up staring at the blinking cursor on the screen. Tapping out a few words, backspace, backspace. Close. Don't save. Shut screen. No words coming to mind. So this is writer’s block, I think to myself. No words come to mind because all that I can think of is food. The Bible says to not worry about what you will eat or drink. But what if your child has digestive issues? What if certain foods cause your little one … [Read more...]

5 Things I Am Doing to Bounce Back

Yesterday I shared with you that my life has felt a bit chaotic lately and that I have been struggling as a result. But, I am ready to get my life back in order, so here are five things I am doing to bounce back. I threw out my 2012 planner and bought a pretty new one because it's the little things that make the mundane more fun. With my new planner, I will get back to planning our meals, my daily time with the boys, my blog posts, and all of the other things I want to be intentional about … [Read more...]

Praying For Our Children

Crafts, baking, read-alouds, play groups, homemade gifts, special celebrations, and all of the other things on our “be a better Mommy” to-do list, pale in comparison to the greatest thing that we can do for our children, and that is to pray for them. I believe there is power in prayer and that the prayers we pray over our children are monumental in shaping the course of their lives. “You’ll never be a perfect parent, but you can be a praying parent. Prayer is your highest privilege as a … [Read more...]

Hello Monday!

Life was busier than usual last week, so things were a little bit quiet here on the blog. I thought I would join Lisa Leonard today with a Hello Monday post to give you a peek at a few things that have been going on around here. Hello newly staged playroom! We met with a realtor on Friday to show him our house and get an idea of the market and what price we should list our house at. He is pretty confident that he can sell it quickly and for a good price, so we are happy about that. We … [Read more...]
