Cottage Garden Help!

First of all, thank you to those of you who have given me advice and ideas on how we can salvage the original pine flooring at Mint Green Gables. I will definitely come back to these ideas when we are ready to tackle the floors. Now I would like to ask for your opinion on the front door color and landscape ideas. Let me preface this by saying I love the color of the house and have no plans to make changes there, but I am thinking about painting the front door to give the front a nice pop of … [Read more...]

Preserving Memories

I finally got around to organizing our keepsakes. I don’t know why it took me so long to start the project because once I began, it really only took me a few hours and now I am finished and it feels great to be able to check that off my list. Most of my keepsakes were already in boxes, so I just needed to sort through them. I have a box for Jack, a box for Aidan, and a box for me and Phillip. I simply went through the boxes and grouped the cards and keepsakes by year or event or church or … [Read more...]

Contentment

I have been listening to Daring Greatly by Brene Brown on Audible on my morning runs this week, and boy is she reading my mail. I just finished the part on scarcity, which is basically the feeling of “I’m not _____ enough”, and I feel like the timing is perfect with my series because if there is one area that women often feel “not ______ enough”, it is with our homes and our homemaking abilities (or perceived lack of abilities). I don’t know about you, but my home is very much an expression … [Read more...]

Heart & Home

This week I am shifting gears a bit. For the past few weeks we have been focused inward, looking at intention in the areas of self-care and personal growth. For the remainder of this series, we will be focused outward as we talk about being more intentional in our roles and in our relationships and how we can show ourselves grace in these areas rather that bear the heavy burden of perfection.  So I would like to begin with talking about cultivating a life of intention and grace as it relates to … [Read more...]

The Little Things

For the last few days, I have been writing about the art of self-care as it relates to our journey to cultivating a life of intention and grace. I have talked about rest, nutrition, prayer, time alone, and creativity. Today I want to wrap up the self-care portion of the series talking about the little things that we can do throughout the day to lift our moods and our spirits. It is easy for women to get caught in the rut of the everyday. Whether you work a job or stay at home, whether you … [Read more...]

Garden Notes

I have been busy the last 2 weeks working in the backyard and garden. I don't know if you remember the raised bed vegetable garden we started last year or not, but you may have noticed that there was not much mention of it after that first post. Why? Because it was an epic fail. Let's just say that my thumb is a little more brown than green. But I am DETERMINED to master this, so I approached the garden with a lot more planning and intention this year.I started a little gardening journal, … [Read more...]

What Inspires Me As a Homemaker

I find inspiration for my home in the very words of Jesus, when He said..."Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."   Matthew 11:28I have this scripture taped to the kitchen window over my sink, so I will be reminded daily of my mission as a homemaker. I long for my home to be a place of rest. A place of peace. A place where my children and my husband, my family and my friends will feel nurtured. ...continue reading at The Andrews … [Read more...]

Clean Enough

My house is clean enough. I wouldn't boast that you could eat off my floors and you might see the occasional dust bunny peeking out from under the sofa, but it is pretty organized and clutter free. I always enjoy reading "behind the scenes" or "day in the life of" posts of other moms, so I thought I would share my cleaning routine with you. Daily: I try to do at least one load of laundry each day. That way it doesn't pile up too bad. Also, I hang most of my clothes up to dry on indoor … [Read more...]

Organizing My Junk

Did you ever see that episode of "Friends" where Chandler discovers Monica's secret closet of junk? If you haven't, here is a short clip of that scene. (Try to ignore the poor sound synchronization.)Every super-organized control freak like Monica (and myself) has a secret junk stash somewhere of "all of the stuff that doesn't fit into any category." And if you are of the creative sort, your junk stash is even worse because you keep all of those things that you could potentially use on a … [Read more...]

So, about those 2012 goals…

Source The other day, I shared with you a bit about my goal planning process. So today, I will tell you my goals (i.e. resolutions) for 2012. Keep in mind, some of these are more like focus areas than specific goals. These are also not necessarily my only goals for 2012, but areas that I know I want to focus on initially. As the year progresses, I will re-evaluate and make additions and changes as necessary. I will also include some of the books I plan to read this year as they line up … [Read more...]
