Little Red Riding Hood

I made Kate a Little Red Riding Hood cape for her Halloween costume. I followed this easy tutorial and lined it with a cute owl flannel to make it extra warm. I also thought the one in the tutorial looked a little plain from the back, so I added a ruffle to the bottom. I can't get enough of that sweet smile. Cheese! I had enough fabric left to make a matching little cape for her dolly, but not enough to add a ruffle. Sorry dolly. Jack hasn't been feeling well at all today, … [Read more...]

What We Do With Our Christmas Cards After Christmas

I hope you had a great Christmas! It has been a busy post-Christmas week here at our house. We've been doing some cleaning, purging, and rearranging around the house, made a visit to IKEA, several trips to the thrift store, and even did a few Craigslist deals. Our Christmas stuff is packed up and I am ready to ring in 2015, but first I thought I'd pass along this great idea that I got last year from my friend Jennifer, who is always an inspiration to me as a mother. If you are busy packing … [Read more...]

Kate’s County Fair 1st Birthday Party

With Kate having a late fall birthday, I wanted to incorporate the season and it's beautiful colors into her party. After a quick search on Pinterest, I knew a county fair themed party would be the perfect way to celebrate Kate's first birthday, especially when I realized my vintage red & white baby dress was sized 12 months and would make an adorable party dress for our little sweetie pie! Before the party officially … [Read more...]

My Love/Hate Relationship with Pinterest

At the risk of sounding a bit melodramatic, I have to say that Pinterest has kind of changed my life. Both for the good and the bad. On the one hand, it has made it so much easier to save and to organize my online finds. You see, I was “pinteresting” a long time ago. I bookmarked websites, screen saved online pictures into Word Documents to save in an Inspiration Folder on my desktop. I even tore pages out of these things called magazines, and saved them in file folders marked Decorating, … [Read more...]

Count Your Blessings

One of my all time favorite Christmas songs is a song that Bing Crosby sings in White Christmas called Count Your Blessings.  (My favorite version is sung by Diana Krall and you can listen to it here.) When I'm worried and I can't sleep I count my blessings instead of sheep And I fall asleep counting my blessings When my bank roll is getting small I think of when I had none at all And I fall asleep counting my blessings Whenever this song comes up on my playlist, I pause and smile as … [Read more...]

When Our Plans Fall Apart

I met the beautiful Jennifer Kindle of The Kindle Crew at Allume this year, and I don't know that I have ever met someone that I have SO MUCH in common with! I wish I could move her and her family from Texas to Atlanta so we could hang out all the time. She has four gorgeous kids and her heart and passion toward motherhood are such an inspiration to me. I asked her to share her thoughts today on how she is living where intention meets grace this Christmas season. Her words truly blessed me and I … [Read more...]

Why do you do that?

I had the privilege of sitting next to the beautiful Katie Sadler at the Allume "Newbies" Dinner and let me tell you, she is just as beautiful on the inside as she is out. She speaks my language of intention as she writes about intentionally pursuing God in all areas of her life on her blog Intentional Pursuit.  I have asked her to share with us today her thoughts on living with intention and grace this Christmas season, and here are her words of wisdom. As the sounds of Christmas music and … [Read more...]

Finding Relief from Christmas Pressure

Since my 31 Days Series has extended into December, I wanted to take the idea of living where intention meets grace and apply it to Christmas season, because that seems to be a time when so many of us begin to feel overwhelmed by the idea that we need to do more and  be better. Last week, I shared my own thoughts on embracing the imperfect at Christmas, and so now I thought it would be helpful to hear some thoughts from others who are doing the same. Today I would like to introduce you to … [Read more...]

Embracing the Imperfect at Christmas

Since my 31 Day series is working its way into December, I would be remiss to not write about living with intention and grace during the Christmas season, as it is a time that many of us moms feel so much pressure to create the perfect Christmas for our families. Like I wrote yesterday, when we get too caught up in all of the doings of Christmas, we can find ourselves stressed out and irritable, and entirely miss out on what this time should be about for us and for our families. Last year, I … [Read more...]

Make it His

I recently finished the book Savoring Living Water: How to Have an Effective Quiet Time by Lara Williams and Katie Orr. If you struggle with having a daily quiet time, I highly recommend this book. It has really helped me. My absolute favorite part of the book is this... "I wake up wanting to hold the reigns of control and set my agenda. Before my feet hit the floor my mind takes off. I have to start the day low. I am the needy one- empty handed and thirsty for His presence. I arise from my … [Read more...]
