In which I tell you about God healing Aidan

As I begin to pack for our Fall Student Retreat, I am checking the weather to see if I need to pack long sleeves, washing the last load of laundry to make sure that the boys have enough clean jeans, and wondering whether or not we should take their scooters. What I am not doing is running to the grocery store to purchase special snacks for Aidan. I am not spending the day in the kitchen preparing special meals to take in a cooler. Why? Because this summer, God healed Aidan. You hold … [Read more...]

On Finding God in My Kitchen

I sat down at my computer multiple times last week to write, but ended up staring at the blinking cursor on the screen. Tapping out a few words, backspace, backspace. Close. Don't save. Shut screen. No words coming to mind. So this is writer’s block, I think to myself. No words come to mind because all that I can think of is food. The Bible says to not worry about what you will eat or drink. But what if your child has digestive issues? What if certain foods cause your little one … [Read more...]

Your Body, His Temple

Along with getting enough rest, nourishing our bodies is so important in caring for ourselves as women. But while we view sleep and rest as a treat and something we want more of, we hear the words “nutritious diet” and immediately think of punishment. But the real punishment comes when we put things in our body that make us feel bloated and tired, but yet we do it again and again because they taste good and they are easy. I gain weight easily so I have never been one of those girls who can … [Read more...]

Rest for the Weary

My husband is a youth pastor and this past weekend, we took our youth to a lock-in. If you are not familiar with a lock-in, it is basically a slumber party where nobody sleeps. You don’t even get to put on pajama’s or bring a pillow. If you are weak, you might curl up in a chair somewhere or get into child’s pose on the hard church floor, but the real troopers keep it going until the sun comes up. And then of course they pass out in the van on the ride back home. To say I am not a fan of … [Read more...]

The Art of Self-Care

“Are you tired, run down, listless? Do you pop out at parties? Are you unpoopular?” If you are a big I Love Lucy fan like me, this script is likely familiar to you. And if you are busy mom like me, you are probably answering, “YES! Yes I am!” Actually, if you are simply a woman, you are probably answering “Yes!” because there is just something in the DNA of women that causes us to be like the Energizer bunny. We keep going, and going, and going. We are natural caregivers and we instinctively … [Read more...]

Quieting the Noise

To really begin this journey of cultivating a life of intention and grace, we must first quiet the noise in our lives in order to lessen the distractions. I’m not talking about locking all of the kids in the playroom for a few hours so that you can just simply put a thought together, although that has crossed my mind a time or two. I’m talking about those things we turn to when we don’t want to think or do. We all have things we turn to when we want to tune out. Books, television, music, … [Read more...]

So, about those 2012 goals…

Source The other day, I shared with you a bit about my goal planning process. So today, I will tell you my goals (i.e. resolutions) for 2012. Keep in mind, some of these are more like focus areas than specific goals. These are also not necessarily my only goals for 2012, but areas that I know I want to focus on initially. As the year progresses, I will re-evaluate and make additions and changes as necessary. I will also include some of the books I plan to read this year as they line up … [Read more...]

I Did It

I joined with 10,000 people to support a great cause, and ran my first 5K this morning! Phillip and the boys came out to support me and my friend Chelsi, and they were cheering us on at the at the finish line. It was a great way to start my Thanksgiving Day and a tradition that I hope to continue each year. Who knows...maybe next year I'll try for the 10K. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner celebration with my husband's family this evening. And while many are out in the craziness … [Read more...]

I’m Back

Wow! When I mentioned I might be taking a small break back in September, I had no idea that it would turn into two months. We had such a crazy summer that went straight into a very busy September with my sister-in-law's wedding and my ladies retreat back to back. I didn't realize how much I needed to get my life and routines back in order until I actually did. As a mama of two little ones,I only get small snippets of time each day to work on things that require mental energy. So where before … [Read more...]

No Time To Lose!

The baby weight that is. At least I'm still calling it baby weight even though Little Man is now 18 months old. I have always had to stay on top of my weight. I'm not one of those people who can eat whatever they want and still be thin. If I want to be thin, I have to watch what I eat and exercise regularly. Unfortunately, I wasn't raised in such a way that eating healthy or working were a natural part of my lifestyle, so I have to make a very conscious effort to do both. After I had … [Read more...]
