What We Do With Our Christmas Cards After Christmas

I hope you had a great Christmas! It has been a busy post-Christmas week here at our house. We've been doing some cleaning, purging, and rearranging around the house, made a visit to IKEA, several trips to the thrift store, and even did a few Craigslist deals. Our Christmas stuff is packed up and I am ready to ring in 2015, but first I thought I'd pass along this great idea that I got last year from my friend Jennifer, who is always an inspiration to me as a mother. If you are busy packing … [Read more...]

Shepherd Your Flock

I recently finished studying the book of 1 Peter with the wonderful team at Hello Mornings. Because my husband and I are in full-time church ministry, when I initially read 1 Peter 5:2-4, I read it as the shepherd being the pastor or church leader and the flock being the church members. Some of the Hello Mornings ladies began tweeting their thoughts on the passage and were likening themselves as mothers to that of the shepherd, and their children as the flock. I went back and reread the … [Read more...]

With Faith Like a Child

We sit on the blanket in the warm September sunshine sharing what we are thankful for and what we would like to pray about. This circle time that we do has quickly become our favorite part of learning at home. Stacked next to me are Bible storybooks and Scripture songs to help me teach them about God and His ways. They listen with eyes of wonder, pray sweet prayers thanking God for trees and butterflies, and ask Him to help the flowers grow again. Emma tells me that God doesn’t talk to … [Read more...]

Sow. Weed. Water. Wait.

As mother’s, we have a tremendous responsibility before us in raising our children. When they are babies, it seems so simple. Hold them, feed them, change them, love them. As they get older, we have to start teaching them right from wrong. Figure out what behaviors we will allow and which ones we won’t allow, and choose how we are going to discipline them for the latter. We start to think about what and how much media we are going to let them be exposed to, and worry about the values we may be … [Read more...]

Chalkboard Prayer Door

A few weeks ago,  I kind of impulsively painted our pantry door with chalkboard paint and I LOVE it! I intended to use it for daily to-do's, but I always end up using the dry erase board in my office for those. So my pretty pantry door has sat rather empty of words. But I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest the other day, had an "a-ha" moment, and decided to turn our pantry door into a "Family Prayer Door". Here's the plan. Each week, I will write a specific thing that I want to pray … [Read more...]

Little Peter

We have a little Bible storybook that I often read out of to the boys during breakfast. In the section about Christ and His Resurrection, there is a page that shows the soldiers taking Jesus away. Buddy is quite obsessed with that picture. That is the only page that he ever wants me to read from. He gets quite angry at those "mean soldiers" and often tells me how he is going to fight them because of what they did to Jesus. I always use this as an opportunity to tell him the story of Peter. That … [Read more...]
