DIY Headboard & Bedskirt

Have I ever told you what a great husband I have? Not only does he help with the kids and the house, love to shop at thrift stores, and watch Grey's Anatomy with me...he is also a very thoughtful gift giver. Prior to Christmas, I told him that I really wanted to redecorate our Master Bedroom after the holidays. I say redecorate, but it has never really been decorated in the first place. Our Master Bedroom has always been the neglected space. Since we have been married, we have never purchased … [Read more...]

For Mamas of Boys

I found this via Pinterest the other night, and was very inspired. 25 Rules for Mothers of Sons With things like this, I like to create visual reminders for myself, or else I will forget them. So I summarized a few of her rules along with some of my own, and wrote them on the boy's chalkboard door in their room. Even though they can't read yet, these "rules" will work as visual reminders to me of things I want to teach my boys. My favorite three rules were: 6. Make sure he has … [Read more...]

DIY Pallet Coat Rack

I have always loved mud rooms and cool entryways. Unfortunately, my house does not have either. I do have a small square hallway-ish area off of the playroom and kitchen that leads to several bedrooms. I was inspired by several pictures I saw on Pinterest that had various frames and artwork creating a gallery-style wall display. I began looking for picture frames at my local thrift stores (and forgotten ones in my closets), and shopping around for cool coat hangers. I found out very quickly … [Read more...]

Frugal and Creative Gift Giving

Spring Yarn Wreath

I've been *drooling* over all of the cute yarn wreaths that I have been seeing on crafty blogs and etsy for quite sometime now. I finally decided to give it a go and I am LOVING my new wreath!     I first attempted to wrap a foam wreath and was not pleased with how it was looking. After looking at a few tutorials online, I swapped out the foam wreath for a straw wreath left in the plastic. It was much easier to wrap!   I wrapped the wreath with yarn and hot glued on flowers I … [Read more...]

DIY Chalkboard Collage Door

We purchased a door from the "as-is" department at IKEA a few months back. I had originally planned to use it to display photos in our living room, but when we rearranged the furniture, it no longer worked with my design plan. So it sat in our shed for a few months, while I waited for inspiration.    A few weeks ago, my mother-in-law gave us a dresser to use in the boys room. We painted it white and put it in their room. It looked great, but needed something above it since there … [Read more...]

DIY Throw Pillow Makeover with Applique

We purchased a cool vintage sectional sofa off Craigslist a few months back, but I have been having a difficult time trying to figure out what kind of throw pillows to use with it. I am used to having a solid colored sofa with colorful print pillows. However, this sofa is a blue and green fabric with a pattern. I found some cream ruffled pillows that made a cute accent, but it still wasn't enough. I pulled an old solid green pillow out of the closet and liked the way the color looked with the … [Read more...]

Christmas: The Aftermath

So here is what my typically very organized playroom looked like the day after Christmas and the addition of too many new toys... Aaaahhhh! So I spent the entire day today reorganizing and cleaning the playroom. I had the hubby move a giant cabinet that we have been having no luck at selling BACK into the house and into the playroom for more toy storage. And then had him move our current toy shelf into the boys bedroom, and take the crib apart and put it in storage. (Little Man hasn't spent a … [Read more...]

DIY Easy Holiday Throw Pillow

We had a Christmas party at our house last night, and as I was decorating the sun porch in red and lime green, I realized that my sun porch couch did not look festive enough. I looked around the house for some "holiday-ish" pillows or blankets, but couldn't find anything. It was only minutes before the party, so I had to think fast. I knew I had some pretty holiday fabric that I had purchased a few weeks ago to make one of these, but never got around to it. I thought I could make a quick pillow … [Read more...]
