In which I am a Desperate Mom

I find that one of the best feelings in the world is that moment when you realize that you are not alone in your struggles with a particular issue or in your feelings on a certain topic. Whether the realization comes during a conversation, or as you are reading a book or a blog post, that feeling of relief accompanied by the words “Me too!” is one that is very freeing. Because it is at that point that we no longer feel that we have to hide the truth of how we feel or what it is that we are … [Read more...]

Praying For Our Children

Crafts, baking, read-alouds, play groups, homemade gifts, special celebrations, and all of the other things on our “be a better Mommy” to-do list, pale in comparison to the greatest thing that we can do for our children, and that is to pray for them. I believe there is power in prayer and that the prayers we pray over our children are monumental in shaping the course of their lives. “You’ll never be a perfect parent, but you can be a praying parent. Prayer is your highest privilege as a … [Read more...]

Make it His

I recently finished the book Savoring Living Water: How to Have an Effective Quiet Time by Lara Williams and Katie Orr. If you struggle with having a daily quiet time, I highly recommend this book. It has really helped me. My absolute favorite part of the book is this... "I wake up wanting to hold the reigns of control and set my agenda. Before my feet hit the floor my mind takes off. I have to start the day low. I am the needy one- empty handed and thirsty for His presence. I arise from my … [Read more...]

Refreshed

We arrived home from our vacation in Orlando late Saturday night and I have spent most of today unpacking and cleaning and doing all of the little things us moms do in order to keep our homes and our families running smoothly. Our vacation was absolutely perfect! We made so many wonderful memories and this past week will always hold a special place in my heart. I arrived home rested, refreshed, and excited! One of the biggest areas that I feel refreshed is in my passion and joy for … [Read more...]

Behind the Blog {Sept. 2012}

Books I've Read... The Quotidian Mysteries: Laundry, Liturgy and Woman's "Work" by Kathleen Norris I read this book based on recommendations from Sarah Bessey. I have to say it wasn't quite what I expected, meaning she didn't write about the everyday in oversimplified terms, but the book read more like a memoir with great insight in many areas of life. I enjoyed her writing style and will definitely be reading more of her books.  Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith by Ann … [Read more...]

Why Hello There!

So it's been almost a month since my last blog post. It's funny, because if you look back through my archives, you will notice that I always seem to disappear around this time of year because our summer schedule is pretty crazy. But I just wanted to say hi, and give a little update of what we have been up to. Phillip went on a 10-day mission trip to Jamaica a few weeks ago. It was the longest he has ever been away from me and the boys, and we sure were happy to have him back. We picked him … [Read more...]

I want to be a dangerous woman!

A few months ago, I discovered Lynne Hybels and she has quickly become a woman that I greatly admire. You probably have heard of her husband, Bill, who is the senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church, which happens to be one of the 10 largest churches in the United States. I can only imagine the pressures and expectations placed on her as the pastor's wife of such a large congregation. She actually writes about her struggles of living a life she thought God demanded, her husband wanted, … [Read more...]

So, about those 2012 goals…

Source The other day, I shared with you a bit about my goal planning process. So today, I will tell you my goals (i.e. resolutions) for 2012. Keep in mind, some of these are more like focus areas than specific goals. These are also not necessarily my only goals for 2012, but areas that I know I want to focus on initially. As the year progresses, I will re-evaluate and make additions and changes as necessary. I will also include some of the books I plan to read this year as they line up … [Read more...]

I’m Back

Wow! When I mentioned I might be taking a small break back in September, I had no idea that it would turn into two months. We had such a crazy summer that went straight into a very busy September with my sister-in-law's wedding and my ladies retreat back to back. I didn't realize how much I needed to get my life and routines back in order until I actually did. As a mama of two little ones,I only get small snippets of time each day to work on things that require mental energy. So where before … [Read more...]

Right Now…

  ...sitting in my bedroom enjoying the cool air from our newly repaired air conditioner after 3 weeks in an 86+ degree home.    ...sipping Peach Iced Tea that I discovered while out shopping yesterday. Yum!   ...loving my sweet husband of 8 years. We celebrated our anniversary with a much needed 2-day getaway last week.    ...playing my husband in Words With Friends and LOSING every game. Not cool. But I will beat him one of these days.   ...nursing my 15 month old, who I thought was … [Read more...]
