How to Design & Hang a Plate Wall Display

I love to collect pretty plates, tea cups, and vintage linens. At few years ago, I finally had enough small plates to hang my first plate wall display. When we bought our new house, I knew that I wanted to hang my decorative plates between my dining room windows. I also knew that I would need a few uninterrupted hours to make this happen, so for weeks the box of unpacked plates sat against the kitchen and I kept re-writing "plate wall" on my to-do list as I turned the page of my weekly … [Read more...]

Little Red Riding Hood

I made Kate a Little Red Riding Hood cape for her Halloween costume. I followed this easy tutorial and lined it with a cute owl flannel to make it extra warm. I also thought the one in the tutorial looked a little plain from the back, so I added a ruffle to the bottom. I can't get enough of that sweet smile. Cheese! I had enough fabric left to make a matching little cape for her dolly, but not enough to add a ruffle. Sorry dolly. Jack hasn't been feeling well at all today, … [Read more...]

DIY Babywearing

For the past few weeks, my friend Gretchen has been hosting a great blog series called For the Love of Babywearing in honor of International Babywearing Week (which was October 4-10) and World Babywearing Awareness Month. I have been babywearing for over 7 years now and truly can’t imagine parenting without wearing my little ones. In my babywearing journey, I have tried just about every style of carrier available and have even made a few of my own. Join me over at Gretchen's … [Read more...]

DIY Co-Sleeper Review {One Year Later}

A little over a year ago, I blogged about the DIY Co-Sleeping Crib we made and it became pretty popular on Pinterest with over 152,000 pins to date. I had no idea that so many people would be inspired by our little IKEA hack, and since I blogged about the co-sleeping crib before Kate was born, I thought it would be helpful if I shared my review after using it for one year. The Quick Version I love it and I wouldn't change a thing! We are still happily using it and will continue to do so … [Read more...]

Kate’s County Fair 1st Birthday Party

With Kate having a late fall birthday, I wanted to incorporate the season and it's beautiful colors into her party. After a quick search on Pinterest, I knew a county fair themed party would be the perfect way to celebrate Kate's first birthday, especially when I realized my vintage red & white baby dress was sized 12 months and would make an adorable party dress for our little sweetie pie! Before the party officially … [Read more...]

Her Vintage Nursery

This past weekend we finally finished and hung the wall arrangement in our (almost here!) daughter's room, and on Tuesday, Jack and I finished up his crafty little contribution, so I am excited to share pictures with you today! I guess you can't technically call her room a nursery, because there is no crib (we co-sleep), but it is still her room nonetheless! The thrifty DIY gal in me is proud to say that I only spent about $50. We mostly reused items that had been previously used elsewhere in … [Read more...]

Crafting for Baby

You all know that I love to knit, sew, and wield a hot glue gun. Well, when I found out that I was having a little girl, my hands got busy making all of the little pretties my time and budget would allow for. This past weekend, I finished up the last few small projects, so now I am ready to show you her mama-made stash! First up, are some sweet little dresses that I knit using this pattern. The purplish green dress on the left was knit from Madelinetosh DK in Cosmos, and the red dress on the … [Read more...]

Our DIY Co-Sleeping Crib

We co-slept with both of our boys, and plan to do the same with our baby girl. With the boys, I just put a toddler bed rail up on the side of my bed to prevent them from falling off, but the bed rails are so unattractive, and I really don't want to put one on my bed again, since I just finished decorating our master bedroom. (You can find more pictures of our master bedroom here.) I started looking at co-sleepers on Craigslist, and decided to check out Pinterest as well, where I found this DIY … [Read more...]

DIY Carseat Canopy/Nursing Cover

Several cool, new baby things have come out since I had Aidan 3 1/2 years ago. One of those things is a carseat canopy, which is basically a blanket that drapes over the carseat, with attached velcro tabs that secure it to the handle. That way if the baby is sleeping or if you are carrying her in the carseat in the cold air or rain, you don't have to worry about the blanket sliding off. Great idea! I shopped around online, but decided I would rather make my own so that I could use fabric … [Read more...]

DIY TOMS Makeover

Last October, I purchased my first pair of TOMS and they quickly became my everyday shoe. When we were working on our house over the summer, I accidentally got white trim paint on the toes, and they have been sitting neglected on my closet shelf since. Now that fall has once again arrived, I have been in need of some new everyday shoes. I shopped around a bit, but couldn't find anything that I liked as much as my TOMS, but I didn't really want to spend the money on a new pair. I went on … [Read more...]
