Quiet

I am feeling very quiet these days. Introspective. Contemplative. I am a person that very much needs to have a strong grasp on the who and the why. Who I am and why is it that I do the things I do? When life brings major changes as it has for me these past few months, I often feel the need to retreat, to pull back so that I can think and evaluate and make sure that I am not losing myself and sight of my priorities amidst the change. Right now, I don't feel that I have much to … [Read more...]

Desperate Book Study {Chapters 5 & 6}

Chapter 5: When the Dark Invades Depression. Something that many women struggle with but no one wants to admit to it or talk about it, especially in Christian circles. I applaud Sarah Mae and Sally for going there, and bringing this topic to the table for discussion. Depression can be such a strange thing. One would think that depression is only caused by sadness or dissatisfaction with one’s life, but for me, the darkness tends to be brought on by physical and mental exhaustion. If … [Read more...]

My Love/Hate Relationship with Pinterest

At the risk of sounding a bit melodramatic, I have to say that Pinterest has kind of changed my life. Both for the good and the bad. On the one hand, it has made it so much easier to save and to organize my online finds. You see, I was “pinteresting” a long time ago. I bookmarked websites, screen saved online pictures into Word Documents to save in an Inspiration Folder on my desktop. I even tore pages out of these things called magazines, and saved them in file folders marked Decorating, … [Read more...]

When You Feel Like a Wannabe

For me, blogging has been a lot like running. Three years ago, I gazed out the window of my computer screen and saw the bloggers passing by, and thought, I want to be one of them. I started a little blog and began writing about this and that, trying to find my voice and figure out who I was as a blogger and a writer. Head down, I kept to myself, quietly tapping away at the keys. I slowly gained confidence and began venturing out of my little blogging neighborhood to join the real bloggers … [Read more...]

Desperate Book Study {Chapters 3 & 4}

Chapter 3: Formulas Don’t Always Work I LOVED this chapter! It really spoke right to my heart. I am a woman who loves formulas, and very much likes to live inside the box. It’s safe in there. Neat and clean. But once I became a mama, I realized that there wasn’t just one formula. There wasn’t just one box. There wasn’t just one opinion. There were thousands upon thousands and they were coming at me from every side. From parenting styles to discipline strategies to education … [Read more...]

On Knitting and Reading

Two of my favorite pastimes are reading and knitting. Reading is my breathing in. I feast on theology and spiritual memoirs as I wrestle out my faith. I am swept to another time and place as I sit down with a great work of classic literature or historical fiction. My creativity is awakened and unpacked as I read beautiful words of poetry and prose. Reading is food for my mind and soul. Knitting is my breathing out. My fingers busy creating beauty as my mind wanders from this to … [Read more...]

On Being a Fair Weather Fan

This past Sunday, our church members were told to wear their favorite team colors or jerseys to church. My husband and I are not into sports at all, so we had no jerseys and honestly wouldn’t even know what color combinations to put together to represent a team. Phillip, being the funny guy that he is, asked me to make him a shirt that said Team Jesus, so I went to the craft store and bought some iron-on letters, and there you have it, a custom team jersey. When he opened up the service with … [Read more...]

Desperate Book Study {Chapters 1 & 2}

I am so excited that this day has arrived! I have been looking forward to reading Desperate since I first heard about it several months ago. This is one of those books that begs to be discussed, and I am thankful for the opportunity to discuss it here with you. Chapters 1 & 2 are full of so much insight that there is no way I could ever cover it all, so I am just going to highlight the parts that spoke most deeply to me. Chapter 1: Ideals and Going Under “When it finally dawned on me … [Read more...]
