margin.

Planning and organization is something that comes naturally to me. I used to be in the event planning industry and the first thing I like to do when planning an event is to close my eyes and imagine the event taking place. I take in the big picture – the sights, the sounds, the smell, the atmosphere, the feel of the space. Then I open my eyes and work my way backwards, jotting down the details and to-do’s necessary to turning that mental picture into a reality. My method has always served me well and I have planned some pretty great events if I do say so myself.

The problem is, I often try to apply that same method to my life.

I close my eyes and try to imagine what I want the big picture of my life to look like. The kind of woman I want to be, the kind of life I want to have, the kind of blog I want to write. And then I try to work my way backwards in the details to make my dreams a reality.

You might be saying… what’s the problem with that? Isn’t that what living with intention is all about? Goals, plans, details, steps.

Yes and no.

You see, when I plan my life down to the last detail, I often forget to leave room for God to write my story.

My big picture is often just a collage of things I see around me. A collection of bits and pieces from the lives of other women, other lives well-lived, other blogs, other stories.

But I am unique and so is the story that God is writing on the pages of my life. I don’t want to limit Him to only doing in me what He has already done in others.

So today I am linking up with the One Word 365 community with my word for 2013…

photo (6)

I want to live a life full of white space and margin.

I want to leave room for Him to make more of my life than I can plan. (John 10:10)

I want to leave room for Him to surprise me. (Ephesians 3:20)

So I enter into 2013 with the story of my life opened up to a brand new chapter, awaiting the touch of His pen as I walk out the words He is writing just for me.

Have you chosen one word for 2013? Leave a comment and tell me about your word or feel free to link to your own blog post if you have already written about it.

Always,

Amanda

  1. Amanda,
I am excited to follow your blog and get to know you better. I especially like the word you have chosen because I chose intention. One of my friends commented on my blog that she was not sure how to be intentional and still let God do His work, so it’s a theme running through my reading today.

I love this: “My big picture is often just a collage of things I see around me. A collection of bits and pieces from the lives of other women, other lives well-lived, other blogs, other stories. But I am unique and so is the story that God is writing on the pages of my life. I don’t want to limit Him to only doing in me what He has already done in others.” Amen, girl, this is sometimes how I live my life.

Excited to see how you become more like Him as you give Him margin to do His thing.

Thank you Jamie! Learning to balance our intentions with His grace is something I am constantly learning in my own life. I wish you well on your journey to living more intentionally in 2013!
