Reflections on Allume

{Me and my sweet friend Faith. She's the reason that I went to Allume and I am so thankful for her encouragement.} I went to the Allume Conference with no plans, no goals, and no expectations, but with an open mind and an open heart to receive whatever God wanted to speak to me. And let me tell you, He didn’t just speak. In the words of Sarah Markley, He shouted. In fact, He even diverted my travel plans to allow me to spend 8 hours in a car with Sally Clarkson, who poured so much wisdom … [Read more...]

Praying Whatever

A few days ago, I talked about being intentional about going after our dreams and taking those first steps, however small they may seem. A few months ago, I sat down and listed some personal goals that I have for myself in the areas of writing, blogging, and ministry. One of my goals was to attend a blogging conference. When writing this goal down, I pictured checking it off the list a few years down the road. But here I am, typing these very words in a hotel room in Harrisburg, PA, awaiting the … [Read more...]

Contentment

I have been listening to Daring Greatly by Brene Brown on Audible on my morning runs this week, and boy is she reading my mail. I just finished the part on scarcity, which is basically the feeling of “I’m not _____ enough”, and I feel like the timing is perfect with my series because if there is one area that women often feel “not ______ enough”, it is with our homes and our homemaking abilities (or perceived lack of abilities). I don’t know about you, but my home is very much an expression … [Read more...]

Heart & Home

This week I am shifting gears a bit. For the past few weeks we have been focused inward, looking at intention in the areas of self-care and personal growth. For the remainder of this series, we will be focused outward as we talk about being more intentional in our roles and in our relationships and how we can show ourselves grace in these areas rather that bear the heavy burden of perfection.  So I would like to begin with talking about cultivating a life of intention and grace as it relates to … [Read more...]

Refreshed

We arrived home from our vacation in Orlando late Saturday night and I have spent most of today unpacking and cleaning and doing all of the little things us moms do in order to keep our homes and our families running smoothly. Our vacation was absolutely perfect! We made so many wonderful memories and this past week will always hold a special place in my heart. I arrived home rested, refreshed, and excited! One of the biggest areas that I feel refreshed is in my passion and joy for … [Read more...]

{Pause} Grace in Action

I was hesitant about committing to The Nester's 31 Day Challenge because of how busy my calendar was mid-October, but I went for it anyway and I am really glad that I did. This challenge has really helped me to develop discipline as a blogger and as a writer. But nonetheless, here I am at the peak of the busyness, and I am finding myself unable to keep up with posting every single day. This past weekend, my husband and I took our youth group to a fall student retreat and I had poor internet … [Read more...]

Go For It

Bucket lists, resolutions, life goals, hopes and dreams – whatever you want to call them, we all have things that we would like to accomplish one day. You may have a specific list written down in a journal somewhere, or you may just have some dreams tucked away in your heart and like an old box of photographs, you occasionally pull them off the back shelf, blow the dust from the lid, and smile tenderly as you look at them one by one. Snapshots of a future you hope to have. Is it just me, or … [Read more...]

Circle of Influence

Whether you realize it or not, you are influenced everyday by things all around you. The music you listen to, the television shows that you watch, the books and blogs that you read, the people you hang out with. All of these voices contribute to the voice in your head and help shape your views. When you were a teenager, you probably heard a lot about avoiding the wrong crowds and not giving into peer pressure. If you attended church youth group or Sunday School, you probably heard a lesson or … [Read more...]

Know Yourself, Accept Yourself

As we leave the portion of this series focused on self-care, I would now like to spend the next few days talking about living with intentional and grace as it relates to personal growth. This past spring, I became good friends with Jen at our local home improvement store. Maybe not so much friends as I kind of stalked her. You see, this year I was bound and determined to have an amazing vegetable garden and she had the knowledge that I needed. I would march into the garden center armed … [Read more...]

The Little Things

For the last few days, I have been writing about the art of self-care as it relates to our journey to cultivating a life of intention and grace. I have talked about rest, nutrition, prayer, time alone, and creativity. Today I want to wrap up the self-care portion of the series talking about the little things that we can do throughout the day to lift our moods and our spirits. It is easy for women to get caught in the rut of the everyday. Whether you work a job or stay at home, whether you … [Read more...]
