Learning About Butterflies

Circle Time   Fingerplays and Songs We have been enjoying some of the caterpillar/butterfly fingerplays and songs from SurLaLune Storytime. It is a great resource for themed fingerplays and songs.   Memory Verse Our memory verse for the past two weeks was 2 Corinthians 3:18. We leaned it by listening to Songs for Saplings Track #3 called "Changed". I told Buddy that just as the caterpillar is changed into a butterfly, we are being changed by the Holy Spirit to be more like … [Read more...]

DIY Storytime Apron

I'm not quite sure where I first heard of this, but I have been wanting to make a "storytime apron" for quite some time. For those of you not familiar with the concept, a "storytime apron" is an apron with a lot of pockets used to hide small items that go along with the story that you are telling. It's a fun way to make a story really come alive for your children. I knew that I wanted my apron to be fun and colorful. I was browsing the "as-is" textile bin at IKEA a few weeks ago, and came … [Read more...]

Doing Our Part

We are blessed to live in a neighborhood with several beautiful parks within walking distance. At least once a week, the boys and I load up the wagon and head down the street to play and explore. Like any young boy, Buddy loves to collect leaves and sticks. We always have a lot of fun.    The downside to these outings is always the amount of litter and trash that we see while we are exploring. It is very important to me to raise my children be responsible and clean up after themselves. … [Read more...]

Spring Yarn Wreath

I've been *drooling* over all of the cute yarn wreaths that I have been seeing on crafty blogs and etsy for quite sometime now. I finally decided to give it a go and I am LOVING my new wreath!     I first attempted to wrap a foam wreath and was not pleased with how it was looking. After looking at a few tutorials online, I swapped out the foam wreath for a straw wreath left in the plastic. It was much easier to wrap!   I wrapped the wreath with yarn and hot glued on flowers I … [Read more...]

More Preschool Learning Activities

I have added a lot of fun new learning activities to our shelf rotation this month...   Counting and Number Identification   I used the punch out circles from my Easter Egg Kit to make little number counters. We roll the die and then let the little bear hop to the correct number. Buddy LOVES this game!     I placed the same counters inside my muffin tin (please excuse how horrible it looks) and Buddy places the correct number of small rocks in each opening.     I found this … [Read more...]

Learning About Gardening

I originally intended to introduce a new learning theme each week with a corresponding blog post review at the end of the week. But it looks like we are falling into more of a two week cycle with our themes, so my blog post reviews about our leaning experiences will be every other week for now. The two week cycle is working well for me because it is easier for me on the planning side, and repetition is always great for little ones. Plus, I don't feel rushed to try to cram too many activities … [Read more...]

DIY Felt Weather Trees

Last summer, I found two felt trees at a yard sale. I made a few modifications and now we use them in the playroom to show what the weather is like outside. The first tree already had a sun sewn to one side. I made a cloud out of white felt to place over the sun if its a little cloudy outside. The other side of that tree just has clouds for those gloomy days. The other tree had apple buttons and an odd face, both which I removed. I hot glued clouds and rain drops on one side and then cut a cloud … [Read more...]
