DIY Birthday Hat Tutorial

I wanted to make a birthday hat for Little Man, but I couldn't really find a tutorial that I liked.    So I let my own creative juices flow, and here is what I came up with.      Here is an easy tutorial I have put together to show you how it was made...   First, make a pattern like the one pictured below. I made mine out of the side of a cereal box. You may have to make some adjustments to the measurements to get the size and shape you are looking for.      Trace your pattern … [Read more...]

Barnyard Birthday Bash

Last Wednesday was Little Man's first birthday.  We had a birthday lunch for him at my husband's parents house.      Because he seems to have a sensitive stomach, I made him a sugar-free applesauce and banana birthday cake and cupcake.     I iced it using Cool Whip mixed with a bit of pure vanilla extract. It tasted pretty good. Kind of like banana bread. But being the picky eater that he is, he wouldn't touch it.    We had his actual birthday party on Saturday. I went with a … [Read more...]

Happy 1st Birthday Little Man!

One year ago this very night, I was walking the halls of the hospital wondering when "real" labor would start. Well it did start and only a few minutes later, Little Man entered this world at 2:34am weighing in at 9lbs.    Today, February 16, 2011, we celebrate one year of loving life with our Little Man.      To my precious baby boy,   You came into this world quickly, and instantly captured this Mama's heart.    I love everything about … [Read more...]

Happy {belated} Valentine’s Day!

Yesterday was such a fun day!    I started the day serving a special breakfast of homemade blueberry streusel muffins. They were so delicious!     We lit our heart lantern and listened to Ella Fitzgerald while we ate.     After we ate, we gave the boys their Valentine's. Their sweet Daddy gave them the cutest little boxes of animal crackers.     Then I gave them their cowboy pajama/lounge pants that I made for them.     I made Buddy's pants by tracing a pair of his store … [Read more...]

Crafting for Valentine’s Day

Buddy and I have been doing a lot of Valentine's Day crafts this week and I thought I would share them with you, in case any of you mama's need some ideas to keep your kiddos busy this weekend.   First up, we made some yummy treats...     Rice Krispie Treats in fact! I saw this idea here. Basically, I just made Rice Krispie Treats following the traditional recipe. After they cooled, I used a heart shaped cookie cutter to make hearts. Then I melted some white bark coating and mixed in a … [Read more...]

SourceYesterday, I had the privilege to participate in a luncheon that our church hosts for widows around Valentine's Day. Each year, we ask the widows a question to get them to share a fond memory of their husbands. This year, we asked them to tell everyone about how they met their husbands. We heard lots of fun stories of blind dates, grocery store romances, long courtships and some that were very fast. I will never forget how some of the women's eyes sparkled … [Read more...]

How to Shop Diaper Swappers

I love Diaperswappers! Not only for the amazing deals I have found on cloth diapers, but also for the community of mama's whose parenting styles are very similar to mine. There are so many discussion forums that have topics on everything you can think of as it relates to natural parenting. It has been an amazing resource to me as a mama. But I will have to say that I was a little intimidated at first, because I  didn't know much about posting on forums. So, for any of you that feel the … [Read more...]
