From Shabby to Naturally Chic

I have been wanting to redecorate the dining area of my kitchen for a while now. When we moved into this house 8 months ago, I was very pregnant with Little Man and we just moved our stuff in, hung a few pictures and that was that.
Last Sunday, I really got bitten by the decorating bug and started searching Craigslist for a new table and chairs. My timing was perfect, because somebody had just listed this table and four chairs for FREE! I love the table and saw great potential for the chairs.

On a little shopping trip at Goodwill, I found this curtain and vase. I decided they would be my design inspiration.
I was also looking at some pictures on Smile and Wave and totally fell in love with her wall

I matched up some paint to the blue vase and my sweet hubby got started painting. We recovered the chairs with the red curtain and…I love it!!!
Here’s a breakdown of the costs:
  • Table & Chairs – FREE
  • Paint & Brushes – $20
  • Red Fabric – $3
  • Clipboards – $12
  • Printing photographs – $10
  • IKEA Chandelier – $40
  • IKEA Dish Towels – $5
  • Everything else I already had!
  • TOTAL: $90
It is the dining area I have dreamed of for quite some time now and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results.
Next up…a living room makeover!

Always,

Amanda

  4. Your new dining room looks fantastic. So fun to see what you can do with a lot of creativity and elbow grease yet just a little money. What fun, love the colours.

  5. This is marvellous! We moved in two years ago and I haven’t done a thing…I hesitate, waffle, change my mind…love your idea of pulling a few items I love together and jumping off from there. And how thrifty. Those blue chairs are just wonderful! You’ve truly inspired me to get moving on making this beautiful old home “me”!
